Full course description
Course Description: This self-paced annual course provides researchers and project personnel with the security awareness knowledge needed to securely access and work within Rice University's regulated research environments. The course focuses on recognizing and responding to common cybersecurity threats, protecting sensitive research data, and understanding individual security responsibilities while conducting regulated research.
Course topics include data security, phishing, social engineering, social media awareness, insider threats, and incident reporting through annually updated SANS Security Awareness training modules. Upon successful completion, participants will understand their role in protecting regulated research data and reporting suspected security incidents in accordance with university policies and procedures.
The course is delivered entirely online through Canvas and may be completed at the participant's own pace. Estimated completion time is approximately 30 minutes.
Prerequisites: Successful completion of the required Department of Defense (DoD) Controlled Unclassified Information (CUI) Training and Certification. {Link will be provided in the course, but can be added here, https://securityawareness.dcsa.mil/cui/index.html}
Intended Audience: Principal Investigators (PIs), researchers, faculty, staff, students, and other project personnel who are authorized to access regulated research environments or regulated research data.
